It’s been ages but I’m back. There was so much going on with my life and I didn’t find the time to… Ah screw it, who am I kidding. I was simply too lazy to sit down and write. As much as I hate reading, writing was never my cup of tea. But don’t you find it strange that I have a blog? For little over three years now? What the hell am I doing? What the hell are YOU doing reading this?
Anyways, back to the entry. The reason I wanted to write this entry was the fact that I just watched one of the most worthwhile movies since Little Miss Sunshine — it’s called Shanghai Kiss. Now we all know I’m no critics. But being able to appreciate a good film is something I’m good at.
The movie revolves around the life of a rootless Asian-American (how’s that for a paradox) would-be actor, who lives in L.A. It started out as though it would be like any other romatic comedies, but it didn’t take long to turn into something different, something very much more interesting. It really made me stay focused throughout the whole movie by some hot chicks and a nude scene tighty written screenplay, well insertion of rapid transactions of time and space. A mouthful really but you’ll understand when you see it.
Shanghai Kiss is about pursuing one’s happiness, and connecting with people, with society, with culture, and especially one’s self. Something I experienced so fiercely during my time in America, and also the time when I came back to Viet Nam. For someone who’d been abroad, who’s been to another culture, someone who’d been called “rootless”, or just someone who is “lost”, the movie can truely be an epiphany — at least for me it did.
If I was a critic and this blog was an accredited online movie review magazine, I wouldn’t hesitate to give this one an A. But I’m not and this blog sucks, so I’d just recommend this to everyone who is above 18 (well I have to be fair, blame the director, that one nude scene ruined it for the kids). Grab it if you saw it on the shelves go out and get it if you’re at home doing nothing. I think you’d like it.
That’s about it for today, I drank too much coffee that I cannot go to sleep now.
You know art :-)
Er, what happen to your 20D, no new picture on your Flickr for quite a while :-)
Wow, long time no see bro. Heard you’re drowning in work recently. My 20D is still doing fine. But THE PREPARATION is taking all of my time. Hopefully I can find some afterwards.
